ST:STUDY_SUMMARY All SCFA showed low concentrations in newly emerged workers. We found that ST:STUDY_SUMMARY acetate, propionate and butyrate are the main SCFA in the honeybee gut and peak ST:STUDY_SUMMARY in 5-day old and in-hive workers. Lactate showed an inverse trend with highest ST:STUDY_SUMMARY concentrations in 1-day old workers and a significant decrease on all subsequent ST:STUDY_SUMMARY days (Kruskal Wallis test, p <0.05).
