Catalytic ActivityRH + reduced flavoprotein + O(2) = ROH + oxidized flavoprotein + H(2)O. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:7574697}.
CautionAlternative splicing has been shown to occur but the shorter forms are believed to be non-functional. {ECO:0000305}.
CofactorName=heme; Xref=ChEBI:CHEBI:30413;
FunctionCytochromes P450 are a group of heme-thiolate monooxygenases. In liver microsomes, this enzyme is involved in an NADPH-dependent electron transport pathway. It oxidizes a variety of structurally unrelated compounds, including steroids, fatty acids, and xenobiotics. In the epoxidation of arachidonic acid it generates only 14,15- and 11,12-cis-epoxyeicosatrienoic acids. It is the principal enzyme responsible for the metabolism the anti- cancer drug paclitaxel (taxol). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:7574697}.
InductionBy phenobarbital.
PolymorphismCYP2C8 genetic variations may be associated with adverse effects of cerivastatin including acute rhabdomyolysis [MIM:601129].
SimilarityBelongs to the cytochrome P450 family. {ECO:0000305}.
Subcellular LocationEndoplasmic reticulum membrane; Peripheral membrane protein. Microsome membrane; Peripheral membrane protein.
