Alternative ProductsEvent=Alternative splicing; Named isoforms=9; Name=1; Synonyms=Alpha 1c-1, Alpha(1A-1); IsoId=P35348-1; Sequence=Displayed; Name=2; Synonyms=Alpha 1c-2, Alpha(1A-2); IsoId=P35348-2; Sequence=VSP_011055; Note=Ref.5 (BAA06901) sequence differs from that shown due to a frameshift in position 465. Ref.13 (ACA05900) sequence differs from that shown due to erroneous gene model prediction. {ECO:0000305}; Name=3; Synonyms=Alpha 1c-3, Alpha(1A-3); IsoId=P35348-3; Sequence=VSP_011044, VSP_011045; Name=4; Synonyms=Alpha(1A-4); IsoId=P35348-4; Sequence=VSP_011050; Note=Ref.7 (AAC06138) sequence is in conflict in position: 453:S->L. {ECO:0000305}; Name=5; IsoId=P35348-5; Sequence=VSP_011051, VSP_011052; Name=6; IsoId=P35348-6; Sequence=VSP_011053, VSP_011054; Note=Ref.8 (AAR84650) sequence is in conflict in position: 302:E->Q. {ECO:0000305}; Name=7; Synonyms=2b/3b; IsoId=P35348-7; Sequence=VSP_011047, VSP_011048; Note=May be produced at very low levels due to a premature stop codon in the mRNA, leading to nonsense-mediated mRNA decay.; Name=8; Synonyms=2c; IsoId=P35348-8; Sequence=VSP_011046; Name=9; Synonyms=3c; IsoId=P35348-9; Sequence=VSP_011049;
FunctionThis alpha-adrenergic receptor mediates its action by association with G proteins that activate a phosphatidylinositol- calcium second messenger system. Its effect is mediated by G(q) and G(11) proteins. Nuclear ADRA1A-ADRA1B heterooligomers regulate phenylephrine(PE)-stimulated ERK signaling in cardiac myocytes. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:18802028, ECO:0000269|PubMed:22120526}.
PtmC-terminal Ser or Thr residues may be phosphorylated. {ECO:0000250}.
SimilarityBelongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. Adrenergic receptor subfamily. ADRA1A sub-subfamily. {ECO:0000255|PROSITE-ProRule:PRU00521}.
Subcellular LocationNucleus membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Note=Location at the nuclear membrane facilitates heterooligomerization and regulates ERK-mediated signaling in cardiac myocytes. Colocalizes with GNAQ, PLCB1 as well as LAP2 at the nuclear membrane of cardiac myocytes.
SubunitHomo- and heterooligomer. Heterooligomerizes with ADRA1B homooligomers in cardiac myocytes. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22120526}.
Tissue SpecificityExpressed in heart, brain, liver and prostate, but not in kidney, lung, adrenal, aorta and pituitary. Within the prostate, expressed in the apex, base, periurethral and lateral lobe. Isoform 4 is the most abundant isoform expressed in the prostate with high levels also detected in liver and heart. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:7737411, ECO:0000269|PubMed:8196478, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9490024}.
